TRS & RS @ SG?

This is just a heads up, we might be performing at Singapore next month (17th) for the second installment of the Family Affairs gig (TRS were guests for last year). This time I think we're headlining as Rogue Squadron.

Most of the rogue dewds are gonna be heading south for sho', especially those about to be releasing shit this year.

So just look out for the gig. I'll have the confirmation and hopefully flyers up when the time comes.

KL Undercover 2, The Roots@KL!, Rogue Squadron's mixtapz update

KL Undercover 2 last wednesday was pretty crazy. From TRS, me, WordsManifest, and Cliq attended. DJ Nesh with Vandal emceein' and Altimet with Loud & Clear emceein' rocked the decks. And it's pretty cool that they switched every hour or so cause I thought I had missed Altimet's set as I came a bit late. The house wasn't full or anything but I think most of the main dudes and dudettes of hip hop came. Some rogue boys deffo came. This one was set in The W and there was a cover charge but the sound was much better than the last one.

Weirdly enough the shit got extra wild way late into the early morning, I think it started when Nesh played Soul of Mischief's 93 till infinity. For some reason it sparked something and shit just went crayzeyh. When it switched to Altimet he maintained the energy. I think they pretty much covered most of the best songs from the golden era. It was fucking crazy. Although there wasn't a big crowd but everybody was really into it. Major props to Kevin, I think the gig is picking up slowly and hopefully one day will get propah big cause I bet it could be really significant to the hip hop scene's ressurection. Being a newb I was never part of the more vibrant hip hop scene back in the days so I'm really excited for the future. Oh and Nesh played bakdatang too, haha that was pretty cool, it was also nice of Vandal to pass the mic to me so I could hype the track up. Both DJs actually played a lotta local tracks and that's just great really.

We also managed to pass some -_- mixtapz. The next -_- distribution should probably be at DJ Fuzz's Mixology 2 Launch on the 24th of April.

So dewds and dewdettes, do come for the next KL Undercover aight?. It's mad fun fuh reel.

Now we're gonna go a bit further back. This has gotta be mentioned since I think it's one important moment in local hip hop history. The Roots! Yeah they came down for Sunburst 2008 and they were mad dope sick ill shit crazy fucking heaven-bent orgasm and the crowd was crazy too. One of the best parts was when they played 'you got me' and a long ass solo section ensued. I know we've all heard and love the 'you got me' live version with Jill Scott that had a long ass ending as well but this was way longer than expected, yet it was spellbinding throughout. There was a drum and percussion solo part which was dope but I've seen it in a video once. And there was also that part when Black Thought kept rhyming endlessly at a furious pace and we emcees were just looking at each other going like 'we got pwned'. As the tradition goes with The Roots there's been a lotta lineup changes but it hasn't taken anything away from their superiority on-stage.

Ili who took care of them told me they really loved the KL crowd. Props to us then! A lotta hip hop dudes I haven't seen in a while came too, I think they must've waited nearly a decade for this, daym. Hip hop heads really went mental, jumping and throwing hands and rapping and singing along and all that. That was dope. All of us came except Cliq who was not feeling well and was really probably pissed off at the viruses that day. Well no worries, since the KL crowd did a really good job I think they might wanna come back some day. Hopefully in the future, for a show exclusively just The Roots and they can do a much longer set. And we can be nearer to them. No homo. Lolwoot.

Sunburst 2008 overall was dope but I personally was just looking forward to and checking out The Roots and George Clinton & P-funk. George Clinton's set was dope (and unique) too fyi.
